House Democrats ask five labs to report safety incidents within 48 hours
Frank Pallone, Zoe Lofgren and Jamie Raskin, the senior Democrats on the Energy and Commerce, Science and Judiciary committees, asked Anthropic, Google, Meta, OpenAI and SpaceXSI on Wednesday for a full account of and safety incidents by November 11th, notice within 48 hours of any new one, and within 24 hours where critical infrastructure is involved. Labs have "been left to develop your own de facto standards on a voluntary basis," the letter says.
It is a request with no force behind it. All three would likely chair those committees if Democrats win the House on Tuesday, so the letter is a draft of what they would make binding next year. SourcesAB
