ChatGPT reaches 1.2 billion weekly users, and OpenAI puts its search volume at a fifth of Google's

Adam Fry, who leads ChatGPT's consumer product, told Alex Kantrowitz that the service has 1.2 billion weekly active users, up from 1 billion about 60 days ago. "ChatGPT's volume of search-like queries is now roughly one-fifth the volume of queries of Google," he said. OpenAI counts every question that goes to the web as a search, and one conversation can contain many, so the ratio is the company's own and nobody outside has checked it.
