Anthropic identifies another Claude incident dating back to January
Anthropic disclosed a fourth cybersecurity incident involving an early version of Claude Opus 4.6, Reuters reports. The incident occurred in January, and the company says it has notified the affected parties. The disclosure extends the known history of these failures further back; it does not describe a new attack this afternoon.

OpenAI gives Paul Christiano a nonprofit board seat and a commercial observer role
OpenAI appointed researcher Paul Christiano to its Foundation board and its Safety and Security Committee. He will be a non-voting observer on the board of OpenAI Group PBC, the commercial company. That distinction matters: the announcement gives him a direct governance role in the controlling nonprofit, without a vote on the commercial board.
Christiano founded the Alignment Research Center and previously led alignment research at OpenAI. He is also a senior technical adviser at the federal Center for AI Standards and Innovation. Apple sets September 14th AI rollout with limits on use
Apple's updated product page says new Apple Intelligence features become available starting September 14th, with Siri AI rolling out in English. Sanders schedules a bipartisan Senate briefing with AI safety researchers
Senator Bernie Sanders will hold a bipartisan AI briefing on September 16th, according to a letter obtained by Axios. Geoffrey Hinton, Max Tegmark and Ajeya Cotra are scheduled to attend. Cotra helped investigate the OpenAI-Hugging Face hacking incident, giving senators access to a researcher who examined an actual failure.
