Sanders promises legislation to ban superintelligent AI

Senator Bernie Sanders said Tuesday that he and Representative Greg Casar will introduce legislation next week to permanently ban the development of superintelligent AI, systems that surpass human intelligence. He made the announcement at the Pro-Human Assembly in Washington, where Steve Bannon also called for curbs on the industry.

Their prescriptions diverged. Sanders urged a US-China treaty to pause advanced development; Bannon called for restrictions on exchanges of chips, technology and knowledge with China. The shared stage establishes a broader constituency for restrictions, but the promised legislation has yet to supply the terms Congress would vote on. SourcesB

Salesforce opens its business workflows to outside AI interfaces

Salesforce unveiled AIforce at Dreamforce, exposing the business data and actions inside its platform through interfaces including Claude and Slack. Salesforce in Claude is now available to all customers in beta, the company says. Employees can ask questions, update customer records and start workflows from the assistant.

Salesforce says requests follow existing permissions and business rules, with actions routed back through its platform. That gives the company a way to remain the system where business records are maintained even when employees spend their time in another vendor’s interface. The permission guarantees are vendor claims; the announcement does not provide an independent security evaluation. SourcesA

Digit 5 adds a safety controller for working near people

Agility Robotics unveiled Digit 5, a humanoid designed to work closer to people with less dependence on protective barriers. Its human-detection system can trigger avoidance, stopping or a seated position, while an independent safety controller oversees the response. The design incorporates Nvidia’s IGX Thor hardware and Halos robotics safety technology.

Agility also claims a longer working interval between charges:

Company specifications. Digit 5 is in development; this is not an independent endurance test.

Early access is expected in the first half of 2027, with general availability by year-end. The safety architecture addresses a practical obstacle to factory adoption, but the announcement does not establish that the new robot is certified for every proposed workplace. SourcesA

Salesforce sets November for Google Cloud infrastructure availability

Salesforce says its Hyperforce infrastructure on Google Cloud is already handling live customer traffic, with North American general availability scheduled for November. Select US customer migrations begin in the fourth quarter. The expanded partnership also connects Salesforce capabilities to Gemini Enterprise.

The availability table narrows the release’s broad integration claims: the for Gemini remains a private preview, with general availability planned for late October; the sales is in beta. Customers choosing a cloud provider now have a migration schedule to assess, while teams planning agent deployments still need to check which connection is actually available. SourcesA

AWS brings its operations agent into Slack and opens more Salesforce data access

AWS and Salesforce announced that AWS DevOps Agent, which helps teams investigate operational problems, is available in Slack. Amazon Quick can also access Salesforce business context now. Additional AWS agents for security and other work are scheduled for the fall.

The partnership expands access to databases and tables without requiring a separate copied dataset, and offers Agentforce customers models through Amazon Bedrock. Direct voice communication between Agentforce and Amazon’s contact-center agents remains a fall release. The immediate change is that teams can investigate incidents and retrieve customer context in tools they already use; cross-platform voice handoffs are still ahead. SourcesA
