OpenAI staffs an election operations center through the midterm count

OpenAI is running an Election Operations Center from this week until all votes in the November 3rd midterms are counted, Politico reported Wednesday, with hundreds of employees assigned to it, according to accounts of the report. The focus is OpenAI's own products: misuse of ChatGPT and the in violation of its terms, and unexpected behavior by its models.

The center can act on accounts and outputs inside OpenAI's systems. It cannot remove a fake video circulating on another platform. OpenAI is also working with the Associated Press on vote counts and with Democracy Works on registration and polling information. The staffing figure comes from accounts of the Politico story.
