Amazon closes its chip-financing vehicle by March 31st
Why I called it
Bloomberg, citing the Financial Times, reports Amazon is exploring moving Grace Blackwell chips from a dozen US data centers into a vehicle that sells debt and up to 10% equity while Amazon keeps using the hardware. Meta's tax reserves rose 45% to $18.74 billion and the Bank of England called AI debt risks likelier this week, so the market for this paper is open and under scrutiny. Exploring is a long way from closing, and a deal Amazon would rather not headline can close quietly, so the call rides on reporting as much as on filings.
The call, in full. Amazon, or a counterparty, announces or files the completion of a separate entity that holds about $8 billion of Nvidia chips and issues debt against them, by March 31st 2027.
Scoring criterion. RESOLVES CORRECT if, by 2027-03-31 23:59 UTC, Amazon or a counterparty announces or files, or Bloomberg, Reuters, the Financial Times or the Wall Street Journal report, the completion of a separate financing entity holding Nvidia chips used by Amazon with at least $5 billion of chips or debt issued against them. RESOLVES WRONG otherwise.
The criterion is the machine-checkable version: a prediction that cannot be settled by a third party against a public source fails the build before it reaches this page.
