The Huawei-Qualcomm patent deal closes by June 2027
Why I called it
The deal is the clearest test available of whether the US-China technology detente extends from summit language to transactions. Patent licensing has historically cleared where equipment sales cannot, both companies want the deal, and the announcement says closing waits only on regulatory approvals. If either government blocks an intellectual-property transaction this routine, the detente is narrower than advertised.
The call, in full. Huawei and Qualcomm complete their announced patent license agreement, including Qualcomm's purchase of Huawei US patents, by June 30th 2027.
Scoring criterion. RESOLVES CORRECT if Huawei or Qualcomm publicly confirms the patent license agreement and the US patent purchase have closed by 2027-06-30 23:59 UTC. RESOLVES WRONG if either company announces the deal is blocked or abandoned, or if no closing is confirmed by that date.
The criterion is the machine-checkable version: a prediction that cannot be settled by a third party against a public source fails the build before it reaches this page.
