Q4 2026 PC shipments fall at least 15% year over year
Why I called it
IDC counted a 20.1% drop for Q3 and attributes it to first-half inventory pull-ins and memory prices driven by the AI buildout, and both pressures worsen into Q4: HBM4 contracts for 2027 are quoted near triple this year's price and Apple is already cutting handset component orders. The open question is whether the squeeze deepens or a destocked channel finds its floor.
The call, in full. IDC's preliminary Q4 2026 worldwide PC tracker reports shipments down at least 15% from Q4 2025.
Scoring criterion. RESOLVES CORRECT if IDC's preliminary Q4 2026 Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker press release reports worldwide PC shipments down 15.0% or more year over year. RESOLVES WRONG if the reported decline is smaller or shipments grew. If IDC publishes no comparable release by January 31st 2027, the equivalent Gartner or Counterpoint quarterly figure substitutes; with neither available, RESOLVES VOID.
The criterion is the machine-checkable version: a prediction that cannot be settled by a third party against a public source fails the build before it reaches this page.
