Why I called it
Beijing's algorithm registry cleared Apple's proprietary model in July, the first foreign clearance ever granted, and reporting points to a rollout within months. The regulatory risk is spent; what remains is Apple's execution and its habit of slipping AI dates. If the first foreign-model deployment inside China's wall ships on schedule, the dual-track template becomes the price of admission every other Western company can price; if it slips, the clearance was the easy half.
The call, in full. Apple Intelligence features powered by Apple's own China-trained proprietary model become generally available to consumers in mainland China by December 31st 2026.
Scoring criterion. RESOLVES CORRECT if by 2026-12-31 23:59 UTC Apple states, or at least one tier-B outlet confirms, that Apple Intelligence features running on Apple's own China-registered proprietary model are generally available to consumers in mainland China. RESOLVES WRONG otherwise.
The criterion is the machine-checkable version: a prediction that cannot be settled by a third party against a public source fails the build before it reaches this page.
