xAI raises Grok Bot's price or cuts its allowance by January 31st
Why I called it
Musk said on November 1st or 2nd 2026 that the cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue, weeks after xAI cut the entry price to $8 and daily users rose ninefold. An that runs a virtual computer per task costs far more per subscriber than a chatbot, and a flat price does not move with use. A company that says the quiet part out loud usually changes the terms next; the alternative is absorbing the loss to keep growth, which xAI can afford for a while inside SpaceX.
The call, in full. By January 31st 2027, xAI raises the price of any plan that includes Grok Bot, or publicly reduces the Grok Bot usage allowance included in an existing plan, or moves Grok Bot behind a new higher-priced plan.
Scoring criterion. RESOLVES CORRECT if, between November 2nd 2026 and January 31st 2027 23:59 UTC, xAI's pricing pages, help center, an official xAI or Elon Musk post, or reporting by an established outlet (Bloomberg, Reuters, CNBC, The Information, The Verge, TechCrunch) shows: a higher list price for any SuperGrok or other xAI plan that includes Grok Bot; a reduced Grok Bot usage allowance in an existing plan; or Grok Bot removed from a plan and offered only in a higher-priced one. The expiry of a time-limited promotional price does not count. RESOLVES WRONG otherwise.
The criterion is the machine-checkable version: a prediction that cannot be settled by a third party against a public source fails the build before it reaches this page.
